What is the SERU test?
It is a computer-based test by Transport for London (TfL) that all existing and new Private Hire Drivers must complete before becoming a licensed Private Hire Driver in London.
SERU stands for Safety, equality and regulatory understanding. The test was introduced by TfL to improve customer service and help ensure public safety.
Do I need to do the SERU test?
All TfL Private Hire Drivers in London will need to take the SERU test. This includes existing drivers.
Do existing drivers need to do the SERU test?
Yes, all drivers are required to complete and pass the TfL SERU assessment. New drivers will also need to complete the TfL Topographical Skills assessment and the Speaking and Listening test. These are often all taken on the same day.
Where do I book my SERU test?
You cannot book your SERU test until you get invited by TfL by email and letter.
How much is the SERU test?
The SERU assessment costs £36, and you will need to pay TfL on the day using your credit or debit card. American Express is not accepted. If you are re-sitting the SERU test, it will cost £16.
How many questions on SERU test?
The SERU test is made up of 36 questions, you will get 45 minutes to complete the test. You will also get 5 minutes before the test to practice some trial questions.
How can I pass the SERU test?
Firstly, read the PHV Driver Handbook provided by TfL. Then make sure you take SERU mock tests to ensure you are ready. Remember on the day of the test you will have a copy of the PHV Driver Handbook with you, so make sure you utilise it.
I have learning difficulties; how can I do the SERU test?
Don’t worry, make sure you let TfL know in advance by calling them on 0343 222 4444 or emailing them at tphdriverassessments@tfl.gov.uk – TfL will make reasonable adjustments to ensure you can take your SERU test.
Types of SERU test questions
The questions are made up of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ’s), Sentence Completion (Drop down) and MCQ Grammar Questions.
How do I cancel my SERU test date?
If you cannot attend you SERU test, make sure you email or call TfL at tphdriverassessments@tfl.gov.uk – If you ignore, your test will be marked as a fail.
How do I change my SERU test date?
If you need to change your SERU test date, you can do so by calling TfL on 0343 222 4444 or emailing them on tphdriverassessments@tfl.gov.uk
SERU Test Results
Your SERU test results will be sent to you via email and letter. It usually takes around 2-weeks to get your results. Sometimes there may be delays, you can chase TfL up on tphdriverassessments@tfl.gov.uk
I can’t see all my SERU mock tests I have purchased
Don’t worry, on your “My account” page you will see 1 link to your SERU mock test pack. You just need to restart the quiz to take another one and it will load a different set of questions. Once you’ve completed the number of mock tests you’ve purchased, you will be notified. You can also see how many attempts you have made on your “My account” page.
